Under Stress

Final project at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design

Supervisor: Eliora Ginsburg

As the molten rock flows within

Erupts to the surface by pressure unseen

Remnants and husks will forever remain

Spots where silver skin scales left a stain

As a child, I was diagnosed with Psoriasis; a hereditary disease known for its silvery
scales. Using LED lights and pattern-making, I designed a collection consisting of
two outfits and one accessory inspired by the shared terminology between Psoriasis
and volcanoes. A combination depicting what Psoriasis is for me.

“Crust”; the “stiff” shell – the way the scales and hardened skin affect how one conducts themselves and the sensation of a mental “cage” they impart on the body.

“Flow”; the Psoriasis that flows with no distinction within the body, like hot lava atop the surface.

“Adaption”; as a chronic illness, there is no cure that can make it dormant forever.
One must find a way to live alongside the affliction, living with the knowledge of possible future eruptions.

Materials: Linen, galvanized steel, copper wires, LED lights, thermoplastic polymer
(WORBLA)

Working techniques: Traditional and digital pattern drafting, free-form sculpting with
mesh and coiling copper wire.
